Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for southeast Saskatchewan. According to an advisory issued at 4:27 a.m. on Monday, a period of extreme heat is in store for portions of southern Saskatchewan.

According to an advisory issued at 4:27 a.m. on Monday, a period of extreme heat is in store for portions of southern Saskatchewan.

Daytime highs are to be in the in the low to mid 30s on Monday, and temperatures are forecast to be even warmer on Tuesday. Respite from the heat is unlikely Monday night, as overnight lows are forecast to remain in the mid to high teens.

A weak cold front will pass through the region early Wednesday morning, bringing daytime highs back down to the high 20s or to the 30 C mark by Wednesday afternoon.

The risks from extreme heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
