The burning hot sun with hardly any clouds is shining over Estevan on Tuesday.

A heat warning is now in effect for southeast Saskatchewan and for much of the province.

Environment Canada issued the warning at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday. It says afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 30s are expected for the rest of the week, with some regions possibly surpassing 35 C.

Little to no reprieve from the heat is expected, as overnight lows will remain in the mid teens.

The heat wave will persist at least through to the weekend, possibly continuing into early next week.

The risks of extreme heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
