A heat warning is now in effect for southeast Saskatchewan.

According to the warning issued by Environment Canada at 4:35 a.m., a ridge of high pressure is expected to bring hot daytime temperatures of low to mid thirties and overnight low temperatures in the mid to high teens.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Shade yourself with an umbrella or a wide-brimmed hat.

Also, never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

The special weather statement that was issued Tuesday has now been lifted.

The Mercury will have more details as they become available.
