Lampman pool undergoes renovations for a new liner

The town of Lampman will be hosting a fundraiser the evening of Sept. 29, in hopes of raising money to provide updates to the community’s pool, which is jointly owned between the town and the R.M. of Browning. The pool has been in operation more than 24 years and still currently has its original pool lining.

According to recreation director Brittany Fox fundraising for this project began in fall of last year, and the pool committee has roughly reached their halfway point in the fundraising goal.

“The fundraiser we’re doing at the end of September at the Lampman curling rink will hopefully be our big fall fundraiser that will get us to our fundraising goal,” said Fox.

“We’re doing an evening of entertainment that will be for adults only, we’ve booked a comedian, and we have a catered supper, as well as a silent auction, a little more entertainment throughout the evening and of course a bar.”

The committee is hoping to raise roughly $80,000 more for the pool rehabilitation, and are looking to raise $50,000 from the September event, with the other $30,000 coming from sponsors. The committee has already raised over $70,000.

“We’ve done really well for the amount of time we have been fundraising. For now the pool liner is the only project we have on the go but after that’s done we’ll start looking at our wish list,” said Fox.

“The pool liner has just come to the end of its life, it should have actually been replaced a few years ago but we’ve been fortunate that it’s lasted us this long.”

Tickets for the event are already on sale and are priced at $40 per person, or $280 for an eight-person table.

“We’re hoping to sell at least 300 tickets,” said Fox.

“We’ve sent out roughly 50 letters to potential sponsors and we’re going to start reaching out to families in the community that want to get involved.

Those interested in donating money can do so by contacting Fox. Monetary donations are currently being accepted by the committee, and can be made out to the town of Lampman on behalf of the swimming pool. Donators are eligible for tax receipts for their contributions.

As well, a donation wall at the pool has been erected that will show the names of those who have donated to the cause as a way of recognizing great members of the community.

The pool committee’s previous fundraising efforts allowed them to replace the lining of the town’s children’s pool last year.

The committee would also like to look at installing new flooring in the pool house, installing a diving board and slide, as well as installing a new lifeguard chair if fundraising goals are exceeded.
