A map that shows a presumptive COVID-19 case for Estevan is being refuted.

The map gained considerably attention locally Sunday afternoon and evening on social media, but no confirmation has been issued from local or provincial health officials about a positive local test.

In a message to the Mercury, St. Joseph's Hospital executive director said he has no reason to believe the map's reporting is legit.

The map also shows a presumptive case for the Carlyle area.

Hoffort reminds the public to check the COVID-19 section at www.saskatchewan.ca.

Estevan has yet to have a presumptive or confirmed case of COVID-19.

On its website, canadacovid19.ca says that all information is gathered from what is publicly announced by provincial health officials in Canada. Due to limited information available, they say most of the cases' locations are not exact and are placed randomly within the closest proximity of the given health region.

In Saskatchewan’s case, there is just the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Saskatchewan has 52 confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID 19. Five are classified as southern Saskatchewan communities outside of Regina, but the locations of those five cases are not disclosed.
