The third annual Terry Fox Run in Oxbow received strong support from people in the region.

Approximately 70 people walked, ran or cycled the five-kilometre distance. They completed two laps through the community, and raised just under $6,500 for the cancer-fighting efforts of the Terry Fox Foundation.

Event organizer Markoski said the numbers were down a little, but she was still pleased with the support.

“I actually thought there seemed like there was more people there on Sunday than the last year’s run, but our numbers were a little bit less,” said Markoski.

Some people have been there every year, but there were also some new faces this time.

A barbecue was held after the five-kilometre jaunt was completed. Some people were present who couldn’t walk or run who came to the barbecue.

A small Chinese auction also brought in some funds.

It was a hot day in the Oxbow area, she said, which meant it was a good day to be out participating.

She hopes the event can continue to happen in the Oxbow area, and give people the chance to support an organization playing an important role in trying to find a cure for cancer while providing support for those going through their cancer journey.
