The Saskatchewan Health Authority has confirming that one of its ambulances from Meadow Lake Emergency Medical Services was involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash south of Beauval while responding to a call late Friday afternoon.

The northbound ambulance had two occupants and it collided with a southbound pickup truck with four occupants. The adult male passenger of the ambulance, who was a paramedic, died from his injuries. A male youth and a female toddler in the southbound truck also died in the collision. All other occupants were transported by EMS with injuries.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says it is currently working to have community and staff supports in place to provide mental health assistance where needed.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with all patients, individuals and families that have been involved and impacted by this tragic accident,” the SHA wrote in a news release. “EMS personnel put themselves at risk to serve others, so it is especially heartbreaking when they are affected by such a crash. To protect the privacy of those involved, we will not be sharing any additional information at this time.”

The SHA also thanked everyone who assisted those in need at the scene and continue to help and offer support.

Road conditions were poor with slush and ice-covered sections at the time of the collision. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
