The newly-formed Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan has their candidate for the Estevan constituency in the upcoming provincial election.

The party has announced that Phil Zajac will represent them locally on the ballot.

Zajac is a familiar name for local voters. He ran to be the Conservative Party of Canada’s candidate in Souris-Moose Mountain for the 2015 federal election, and was the candidate for the People’s Party of Canada in last year’s federal election. He was defeated in both bids.

“I want to see this community be successful, and I think there has to be a strong voice for the people of Estevan if we’re going to prosper as a community,” said Zajac.

He said he shares many of the Buffalo Party’s core values, including the need to put Saskatchewan people first and the need to stand up for the province.

Zajac stressed that it’s important to keep Units 4 and 5 at the Boundary Dam Power Station operating – they are scheduled to close in 2021 and 2024, respectively – and to ensure that coal remains an important part of the province’s power generation.

Zajac is the third candidate for Estevan for the election. Incumbent MLA Lori Carr will represent the Sask. Party – she was nominated in the fall of 2018 – while Linda Sopp will carry the Progressive Conservatives’ banner.
