Winston van Staveren, a farmer from the Creelman area, has announced his candidacy for the Saskatchewan Party nomination for the Cannington constituency.

Van Staveren was raised on a farm near the village of Creelman. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and obtained his bachelor of science in agriculture, with a major in agronomy and a minor in agribusiness. He currently farms with his family on their family-owned grain farm.

He said he wants to promote a thriving, safe area to live and work in.

“He cares about his community and volunteers with his local church, rink, agricultural society, and theatrical club,” he said in a news release.

Van Staveren was selected as a delegate to represent his community and province at multiple political conventions. He has been an active campaigner for political parties both federally and provincially.

Dan D’Autremont is currently the MLA for the Cannington constituency. He announced last November that he would not be seeking re-election in the riding, after serving as the MLA since 1991.

Daryl Harrison has also declared his intention to run for the Sask. Party in Cannington.
