Special weather statement issued for southeast Saskatchewan

A special weather statement has been issued for the southeast region. Environment Canada issued the statement at 10:38 a.m. Monday. It notes that the first warm spell of the season will encompass most of Saskatchewan Monday and Tuesday.

Daytime high temperatures Monday for most of southern Saskatchewan will be hovering near the 30 C mark. On Tuesday, a cold front will track across the northwestern grainbelt, bringing cooler temperatures to these areas.

Over the remainder of southern Saskatchewan, hot temperatures will prevail again, however the approaching cold front will generate widespread showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening before exiting into Manitoba.

Heat warning criteria is not expected to be met with these temperatures.

Cooler temperatures are in store for all regions by Wednesday.

While not included in the special weather statement, the forecast notes the Estevan area is expected to receive additional precipitation Wednesday evening, with rain and possibly even snow in the forecast for Thursday, Friday and into Saturday. Temperatures are expected to be well below normal for Friday and Saturday as well.
