The polling stations are open and Canadians have been turning out to vote in the Oct. 21 federal election.

Voters in Souris-Moose Mountain have six options to choose from: Javin Ames-Sinclair of the Liberal Party, Ashlee Hicks of the New Democratic Party, Robert Kitchen of the Conservative Party, Judy Mergel of the Green Party, Travis Patron of the Canadian Nationalist Party and Phillip Zajac of the People’s Party of Canada.

Polls opened at 7:30 a.m. and will remain open for 12 hours. Results for Souris-Moose Mountain and other constituencies in the province should start being announced a short time later.

Advanced polls were held from Oct. 11-14. An estimated 4.7 million Canadians voted during the advanced polling.

Any Canadian citizen at least 18 years of age who didn’t vote in the advanced polls would be eligible to vote on election day.

Polling stations are located at the Estevan Church of God, the Estevan Leisure Centre's multi-purpose room and Trinity Lutheran Church. Voter information cards that were sent to eligible voters indicate which polling station to visit.

The Mercury will have full coverage of the local and national results tonight.
