A powerful storm made its way to Estevan Monday, bringing strong winds and blowing snow to the city.

The howling winds arrived at noon. The sustained wind speeds eclipsed 64 kilometres per hour, and gusts were 91 kilometres per hour. The snow began just after 4 p.m. Monday, with the wind whipping the snow around.

Roads were already slick due to light rain earlier in the day.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways Highway Hotline issued travel not recommended advisories for all of the highways around Estevan Monday evening and into Tuesday. The travel not recommended warnings were lifted Tuesday morning, although the hotline says winter conditions still exist on most highways.

Some highways in the far southeast corner of the province have seasonal conditions exist on their reports, including Highway 39 from Estevan to Midale.

The weather forecast calls for snow to continue Tuesday morning, and for a chance of flurries in the afternoon. Strong winds will persist throughout the day, and the below average temperatures will continue until Wednesday.
