There are 60 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Oct. 25, including five in the southeast.

Three of the new cases are from Southeast Zone 4, which includes Estevan. One new case is in Zone 3, which includes Weyburn and is to the west of Zone 4, and one new case is from Zone 2, which is to the north of Zone 4.

Twenty-three cases in the southeast region are considered active. Nineteen active cases for the southeast are from Zone 4.

There are also 27 new cases in the Saskatoon region, 14 in the Regina region, five in each of the north central and northeast regions, two in central east, one in the northwest and one in the far northwest.

Public health investigations are underway to determine the source of transmission for all new cases. Of the 2,729 reported cases, 619, or 22.7 per cent, are considered active.

Fifteen more people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,085, or 76.4 per cent of those diagnosed.

To date, community transmission in Saskatoon is largely due to after-work socializing among young adults. Forty-eight cases have been linked to the Longbranch Bar outbreak, 22 cases to Diva’s nightclub, 11 cases to the Canadian Brew House (Stonebridge) and eight cases to Outlaws Country Rock Bar.

Transmission in Regina generally appears to be a result of close family contacts with known cases, rather than public social activities.

Twenty-five people are in hospital. Twenty-one people are receiving inpatient care: ten in the north, eight in the Saskatoon region and three in the Regina region. Four people are in intensive care, with three in Saskatoon and one in Regina.

There have been 486 cases from the south area (228 southwest, 211 south central, 47 southeast).

As for the rest of the province, 623 cases are from the Saskatoon area, 503 cases are from the north area (165 northwest, 228 north central, 110 northeast), 430 cases are from the far north area (379 far northwest, zero far north central, 51 far northeast), 357 cases are from the central area (196 central west, 161 central east) and 328 cases are from the Regina area.

Two cases with pending residence location.

Of the 2,729 cases in the province, 348 cases are travellers, 1,354 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 706 have no known exposures; and 321 are under investigation by local public health.

Eighty-five cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.

A total of 523 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 971 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 783 are in the 40-59 age range, 373 are in the 60-79 age range and 79 are in the 80-plus range.

Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

Twenty-five deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.

To date, 247,909 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Oct. 23, when other provincial and national numbers were available, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 168,160 people tested per million population.
