Cheers and Jeers for April 3

Cheers: Cheers to all of the hearts that we’re seeing in people’s windows, or on streets or sidewalks, and for the hearts from local businesses that appeared in this week’s edition of the Estevan Mercury.

Cheers:

Cheers to all of the hearts that we’re seeing in people’s windows, or on streets or sidewalks, and for the hearts from local businesses that appeared in this week’s edition of the Estevan Mercury.

Cheers to everyone who managed to do an April Fool’s Day joke this year. Even during these difficult times, it’s important for people to maintain a sense of humour.

Cheers to the hiring of Nathan Johnson as the new principal at the Estevan Comprehensive School. He’s going to do a great job.

Cheers to the Estevan Regional Nursing Home staff for making a resident’s birthday special, when her family couldn’t be with her. The FaceTime chats, Happy Birthday video  and birthday cupcake with candle made her day happy, and ours, too.

Cheers to all the people we’ve seen out walking and running at the Chamney Running Track near the Estevan Comprehensive School, and doing so while maintaining social distancing.

Cheers to Estevan Bruins defenceman Kade McMillen for all of his work in the community. He definitely earned the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s RBC Community Ambassador Award.

Jeers:

Jeers to those parents who just don't seem to understand how important social distancing is right now. As much as your children might be driving you to distraction, they shouldn't be playing with other children.

Jeers to those who still refuse to use their signal lights, or who don’t signal well in advance. It doesn’t take much time or brain cells to use the signal light.

Jeers to the increase in the carbon tax that took effect April 1. You’d think that in this time of uncertainty for individuals and businesses, the government would back away from this. It didn’t happen.
