Cheers and Jeers for June 1

Cheers to the Drewitz School of Dance for another entertaining Spotlight on the Stars recital. It was great to hear a lot of old songs from the past as well.

Cheers to the United Way Estevan for organizing the Day of Caring on Wednesday, and to all of the volunteers who helped out at projects as well.

Cheers to everyone who voted for Bienfait in the Saskatchewan Roughriders Block Party contest. This will be a great event for the town.

Cheers to all of the mining company employees and management for the contributions they make to our local economy. Coal remains a valuable part of this area.

Cheers to the Pride Week activities that are taking place in Estevan this week. Let’s celebrate diversity in the community.

Jeers to those who insist on littering. People have better things to look at than empty plastic cups, used napkins and gum wrappers.

Jeers to those who illegally park in handicapped stalls. It’s not hard to park a few feet further away from the store or the restaurant.

Jeers to those who left their pets and children in vehicles with the windows rolled up. It’s a dangerous action that can have health consequences.

Jeers to motorists who have been speeding in construction zones. Slowing to 30 kilometres an hour is a much better choice than risking people’s lives because of driving too fast.

Jeers to the owners of unkempt yards in the city. Time to mow the lawn, trim the weeds and take other steps to clean the property.
