Cheers and Jeers for June 28

Cheers: Cheers to the members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service for coming to spray the students at Spruce Ridge School. The students sure enjoyed the experience.

Cheers to the members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service for coming to spray the students at Spruce Ridge School. The students sure enjoyed the experience.

Cheers to the Estevan Police Service and the Estevan Public Library for having the Bikes and Books Rodeo on the weekend. Glad to see it wasn’t cancelled due to the weather.

Cheers to the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive for the Estevan Salvation Army’s food bank.  The shelves are replenished and it will help the Salvation Army entering the summer months.

Cheers to Brian Fitzpatrick and Kris Carley for playing 115 holes of golf on Saturday, and raising more than $4,200 for Kidsport.

Cheers to Estevan Minor Box Lacrosse for hosting the league playoffs on the weekend. Good luck to the local teams at provincials.

Jeers:

Jeers to the speeding motorists that we continue to see on Petterson Drive. Some people really need to slow down. And the police need to ramp up enforcement on that road.

Jeers to the number of stray cats that we’re seeing in certain parts of the city. People should do their part to control the pet population.

Jeers to those who won’t obey the school zone speed limits during the summer months. There are still playgrounds in the schools used by children, so you still have to go 30 kilometres per hour.

Jeers to those who complain about a lack of activities in the Estevan area in the summer months. There’s lots to do. And you don’t have to look hard to find it.
