Cheers and Jeers for March 27

Cheers to all of the grocery store workers who have been going above and beyond, and putting up with unnecessary abuse from customers, during the past couple of weeks.

Cheers to all of the grocery store workers who have been going above and beyond, and putting up with unnecessary abuse from customers, during the past couple of weeks.

Cheers to city council for making the decision to show grace to ratepayers when it comes to utility rates and property taxes.

Cheers to those who have still been paying their bills during this tough time, rather than deferring payments if they don’t have to. If you can’t pay, that’s one thing. But if you can pay, then please do so.

Cheers to the people who worked hard to bring an addictions treatment centre back to St. Joseph’s Hospital. It should have never been pulled from here in the first place.

Cheers to everyone who has been doing all they can to support local businesses over the past couple weeks. Don’t forget them in these tough times.

Cheers to the young people who have been physically active now that school’s out. Bonus points if they’ve been physically active while indoors.

Jeers to those who still aren’t following rules for crowd sizes, business closures or self-isolation that have been gradually introduced in the past few weeks.

Jeers to whoever is responsible for the map on the Canada COVID-19 website that showed there was a presumptive case of the coronavirus in Estevan and Carlyle. The irresponsible behaviour caused a lot of unnecessary panic in communities.

Jeers to the fact that a new nursing home for Estevan wasn’t among the projects announced by the provincial government last week. Hard to believe there are any senior facilities in the province more in need of a replacement.
