Cheers and Jeers for March 6

Cheers: Cheers to local organizations that take the time to visit businesses in person when looking for donations or sponsorships for their events, instead of just mailing out a form letter.

Cheers:

Cheers to local organizations that take the time to visit businesses in person when looking for donations or sponsorships for their events, instead of just mailing out a form letter. The ECS senior girls basketball team and the Estevan Bearcats novice hockey teams are among those who took this approach.

Cheers to the City of Estevan for keeping the walkway path behind Brooks Road free of snow this winter.

Cheers to the pastors who braved the cold to distribute ashes outside the Estevan Leisure Centre on Ash Wednesday last week.

Cheers to the Estevan Comprehensive School’s senior girls basketball team for continuing to host the Victor Elias Memorial Shoot for a Cure basketball tournament each year, and for their efforts to support those fighting cancer.

Cheers to the leadership 30 and the art 20 classes at the Estevan Comprehensive School for the reconciliation garden and the creative and informative displays in the school’s courtyard.

Cheers to the Estevan Bruins for the format of their fundraising supper. It was a great night out with excellent food and entertaining stand-up comedy.

Jeers:

Jeers to people who park their industrial work vehicles on residential streets. Find a parking lot for your vehicles.

Jeers to people who call local businesses to price check on items and then end the conversation with “you can sure buy it cheaper online.” Yes, shopping online is more convenient and less expensive at times but how does Amazon, for example, contribute to your community?

Jeers to all of these scam phone calls and telephone surveys that people receive. It’s almost enough to force someone to change their phone number.
