Cheers and Jeers for Oct. 1

Cheers: Cheers to the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum for providing the cultural scavenger hunt this summer. It was a fun activity to get people up close and personal with so many beautiful works of art. Great for all ages.

Cheers to the City of Estevan’s staff for the stunning flowers on the sidewalks and boulevards this summer. The gardeners did a superb job.

Cheers to the City of Estevan and the local Kin Clubs for resurfacing the cement at Hillside rink. They also lowered the basketball nets to regulation height. It will be nice to see people able to enjoy them.

Cheers to those involved with the Estevan Mercury each week. It’s full of interesting stories and lovely coloured photos. The entire paper is enjoyable and full of community spirit.

Cheers to the organizers of the Dennis Kuntz Memorial Day in Macoun. A day filled with community activities, in honour of a man who was a big part of life in and around the village.

Cheers to the Estevan Bears U18 AAA hockey team’s decision to honour the late Ron Areshenkoff with their new dressing room.

Cheers to the campgrounds in southeast Saskatchewan for the great times they offered to people in the community this summer. There was no better year to take a staycation than this one.

Jeers:

Jeers to the people not wearing masks, or wearing them wrong, in stores where they’re required. It’s their house and their rules. How would you like it if people were in your house and didn’t follow your rules?

Jeers to the plans rolled out for high school sports this fall. Mini leagues for high school football? Limited seasons? Late starts? There’s a difference between cautious and overbearing.

Jeers to the demolition of the Derrick Motor Inn. It’s a sad end of an era in Estevan, a place that created so many great memories for many of us.

Jeers to those who take up multiple parking stalls. How hard is it to fit your vehicle within the painted yellow lines in a parking lot? Other people will want to park there.
