Cheers and Jeers for Oct. 11

Cheers to St. Giles Anglican Church for their annual Blessing of the Animals service. This is such a great idea, and it was fun to see the cats and dogs in church.

Cheers to the dedicated firefighters in Estevan and other communities who help keep residents in those communities safe.

Cheers to the start of another season of minor hockey in southeast Saskatchewan. It should be another fun year for the kids.

Cheers to Estevan’s Chris Henderson on the release of his new album, and for being willing to talk to people who are facing mental health issues.

Cheers to the many reasons that we have to be thankful at this time of year, chief among them would be the people who prepare the great Thanksgiving meals that everyone else gets to show up for and enjoy.

Jeers:

Jeers to those who insisted on driving too aggressively in the nasty weather on Wednesday, and placing everyone else’s health at risk.

Jeers to those who will stubbornly say they don’t need to get a flu shot this year, or those who take the anti-vaccine stance. Think about others and get vaccinated.

Jeers to people who run red lights, creating a dangerous traffic hazard on the roads.

Jeers to those who still haven’t received the message about the dangers of impaired driving. Regardless of whether it’s by drug or by alcohol, if you drive while impaired, you’re putting everyone else at risk.
