Cheers and Jeers for Oct. 25

Cheers: Cheers to everyone who showed up and voted during the federal election. The people of Souris-Moose Mountain should be proud with a voter turnout that exceeded 77 per cent.

Cheers to all of the many volunteers who were involved with the United Way Estevan’s telethon on the weekend. It’s great to see the community come together and raise so much money for so many great causes.

Cheers to the organizations that will be hosting Halloween celebrations in the next couple of weeks. The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum’s Halloween Haunt was a great way to start these activities.

Cheers to the Estevan Century 21 U12 Chargers football team for the great season they had on the football field, and for showing what local football players are capable of.

Cheers to the organizers and volunteers with the Creative Tables fundraiser in Arcola last week. It’s a fun night and a wonderful way to raise funds for those fighting cancer.

Jeers:

Jeers to having to blow an air horn to get your kids’ attention when they don’t listen. What has to be done next?

Jeers to those who didn’t have the time or the interest to vote on Monday. That sort of apathy is discouraging, but at least those people are in the vast minority in the southeast.

Jeers to people who have mocked, insulted or belittled others for voting for someone else in an election. We live in a democracy. That means we have the ability and the freedom to vote for the party of our choosing, without condemnation.

Jeers to motorists who aren’t watching for wildlife out on the roads. It’s not always the driver’s fault when a deer is hit. But slow down, especially at dusk and dawn.
