It would be foolish to attempt to try to ignore the ongoing pandemic, what with news of more cases, more deaths and more jaw-dropping information daily bombarding the media.
There’s no shame in admitting that a sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach makes its appearance at least once a day. As I wrote last time, it’s the peace of God that brings strength.
I doubt that there’s one person who reads these articles who isn’t hoping and praying for a swifter than predicted “flattened curve.” As challenging as is the resolution, it’s equally challenging to emotionally comprehend the swiftness and the severity of it all; if ever there was an occasion in which to demonstrate unselfish concern for others, it’s now.
Having said that, I’m determined to appreciate and pass on the kindnesses shown me. Here are just a few: within the last week, we’ve had seven different people offer to help in any way they could, including going grocery shopping and providing rides whenever necessary. Now I call that downright neighbourliness! Here’s an excerpt from a letter that was wedged into our front porch door.
“I wanted to let you know that if you need any help during these trying times we will do what we can so please let us know … If you need me to pick up something from a grocery store or pharmacy, please let me know … some of my neighbours are elderly and have health issues and would prefer not to take any chances by going out. Smart move…. We don’t want to see our neighbours worry about getting things they need when we can all help each other.”
Thank God for neighbours and thank God for His Word!
