Cheers and Jeers for Jan. 4

Cheers to the City of Estevan for posting Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on the entrance sign on the east end of the city, and not being afraid of political correctness.

Cheers to the City of Estevan for posting Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on the entrance sign on the east end of the city, and not being afraid of political correctness.

Cheers to everybody who supported the Salvation Army by ringing bells at the Christmas kettles or by making a donation. It helps so many people.

Cheers to St. Giles’ Anglican Church for playing Christmas songs with their church bells. It was so nice to hear the bells ringing.

Cheers to the students and the junior hockey players for helping with the Community Hamper Association with the food hampers.

Cheers to the volunteers who dedicate time to maintaining the outdoor arenas in Estevan. They’re particularly handy during Christmas holidays.

Jeers to overly aggressive Boxing Day shoppers who seem to be lacking in patience, and are more concerned about finding a great bargain than acting in a proper fashion.

Jeers to people who complain when a restaurant or a retail business isn’t open on New Year’s Day. Often the amount of activity that day doesn’t warrant being open.

Jeers to those who haven’t removed the snow from their sidewalks following the most recent snowfall, and to those who shovel snow onto sidewalks when clearing their driveways.

Jeers to the people who hit other people’s vehicles when opening their doors, and don’t leave a note.

Jeers to those who complain about the check stops that are set up by the police on New Year’s Eve and at any other time of the year.
