Silent heroes are people not looking for recognition of their selflessness in helping others. Jane Howard is one of those people. Jane gives so much of herself in helping our community in one way or another.
Jane first joined the Estevan Humane Society’s board of directors years ago. At that time for board members, it was a daily commitment of some kind, whether it was hands on animal care, shelter cleaning, repairs, fundraising, clearing snow, dealing with flooding, etc., and at one point everything, including staff timetabling, payroll and opening and closing the shelter, fell on Jane’s shoulders as she was pressured into accepting the chair of the board position.
So it was like a second full-time, unpaid job, on top of her regular day job, and she was also helping look after her nephews on top of this, so their mothers could go to work, or just so she could give her nephews’ parents a break (and she still does this). She was also helping Hitchcock with fundraising for their community hall.
Exhausted, having given several years to the humane society, she left the board, still feeling she wanted to help the people of our community but with less hours of personal commitment. Jane is just one of those silent heroes who can't say no, and now she is on the board of directors for Southeast Advocates for Employment Inc., as well as Envision Counselling and Support Centre. Besides, she is the District 555 chairwoman for the Inner Wheel Club while still holding down a full-time job and working on her bachelor’s degree.
Jane is so caring to her family and all her friends as well. She's always offering help and support in any way she can. Jane is amazing and really does deserve public admiration and appreciation of her selflessness and good heart. Thank you Jane for all you do for us.
