Bruins dominate Ice Wolves for eight-goal victory

The Estevan Bruins had goals from eight different players in an 8-0 shutout victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves Wednesday night.

Erik Boers, Cody Davis and Griffin Asham-Moroz scored in the opening 10 minutes of the first period to give the Bruins a 3-0 advantage after the opening frame. Eddie Gallagher tallied early in the second for a four-goal lead.

The Bruins poured it on from there, as Tanner Manz, Isaiah Thomas, Tyson Manz and Ryder Pierson all scored in the third period.

Keenan Rancier stopped 27 shots to get the shutout for the Bruins, who outshot the Ice Wolves 52-27. Estevan had 21 shots on goal in the first period and 23 in the third.

The two teams combined for 166 minutes in penalties, with La Ronge receiving 119 minutes. The vast majority of those penalty minutes came in the third period, when the game was already out of reach.

With the win, the Bruins (25-21-3-1) moved one point ahead of the Humboldt Broncos, 54-53, for seventh in the league’s standings. The Bruins have also won four straight games.

The Bruins will be back on the ice Friday night when they visit the Melville Millionaires.
