Bruins earn a close win over Yorkton

The Estevan Bruins held the edge in play for most of the night, but had to hold on to get a 3-2 victory over the host Yorkton Terriers on Tuesday night.

Yorkton opened the scoring at the 4:58 mark of the first period on a goal by Jordan Guiney. But the Bruins Troy Hamilton scored a few minutes later to tie the game.

Isaiah Thomas scored 39 seconds into the second period to give Estevan the lead, and Brady Nicholas tallied just over four minutes later to give the Bruins a two-goal lead.

Estevan held a 33-17 shots through two periods.

Yorkton had a stronger effort in the third, outshooting the Bruins 17-10, but only beat Bruin goaltender Keenan Rancier once, a power play goal by Jordan Guiney with 3:15 to play in the third period.

Rancier finished with 32 saves on the night, while Philippe Bond had 40 saves for Yorkton.

The Bruins will return to the ice Friday night when they host the Melfort Mustangs at 7:30 p.m.
