Bruins win streak ends against Yorkton

The Estevan Bruins season-high five-game winning streak came to an end Saturday night against the Yorkton Terriers, but the Bruins still came out of it with a point. The Bruins lost 2-1 in overtime to the Terriers at Affinity Place.

The Estevan Bruins season-high five-game winning streak came to an end Saturday night against the Yorkton Terriers, but the Bruins still came out of it with a point.

The Bruins lost 2-1 in overtime to the Terriers at Affinity Place. Terriers forward Chantz Petruic, who is the league’s leader in goals with 52 and points with 98, scored his second of the game with 2:33 to play in overtime to lift the Terriers to victory.

He also had a goal in the opening frame.

Troy Hamilton had the Bruins lone goal. It came midway through the third period to force overtime.

The Bruins outshot the Terriers 57-26, including 23-5 in the third period. Keenan Rancier stopped 24 shots for the Bruins.

Philippe Bond made 56 saves in the Terriers net, just four nights after he allowed six goals and was pulled in the second period in a 9-2 loss to the Bruins.

Estevan remains in the eighth and final spot in the SJHL standings with an 18-17-3-1 record and 40 points. They are four points clear of the Kindersley Klippers with two games in hand.

Estevan will return to the ice Friday night when they visit the Weyburn Red Wings. It will be the first half of a home and home against the Red Wings.
