The first day of 2019 wasn’t a kind one to the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins, who lost a 6-1 blowout to the Weyburn Red Wings in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action.

Like they did in their game Sunday against the Red Wings, the Bruins wildly outshot the Wings, with a 46-24 count in favour of the Bruins, but in this game the Bruins ended up on the short end on the scoreboard. The Bruins’ only goal was scored by Isaiah Thomas to open the game's scoring at 7:17 of the first period.

Ben Hiltz scored two goals and an assist for the Red Wings. Grant Boldt stopped 19 shots in the Bruins' net.

The Bruins' next action will be Jan. 8 at Affinity Place against the Yorkton Terriers. With the loss today, the Bruins are four points behind the Terriers for first place in the Viterra Division.
