Bruins continue to climb up the standings

The Estevan Bruins continued their ascent of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s standings Wednesday night with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.

The Estevan Bruins continued their ascent of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s standings Wednesday night with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.

Team captain Jayden Davis had the opening goal five minutes into the game and also notched the final goal of the game early in the third while the Bruins were short-handed.

Notre Dame’s Sho Takai scored midway through the first to tie the game, but Troy Hamilton responded with 50 seconds to play in the first to restore the Bruins advantage.

Cody Davis and Tyler Savage scored 50 seconds apart in the second period to give the Bruins a three-goal advantage after two, and then Savage scored his second of the game two minutes into the third.

Keenan Rancier stopped 28 shots for the Bruins in the victory.

With the win, the Bruins improved their record to 30-22-3-1 and 64 points, and moved into a tie for sixth place with the Nipawin Hawks. Both teams sit three points clear of the eighth place Humboldt Broncos.

Estevan, Nipawin and Humboldt each have two games remaining.

The Bruins will close out the regular season with a home and home against the Weyburn Red Wings. The first game will be played Friday night in Weyburn, and the second will be Saturday night in Estevan. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
