The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins are on the brink of elimination for the second consecutive playoff series.

The April 5 game in Melfort saw the Mustangs win 4-1 over the Bruins, leaving the semifinal series at 3-2 for Melfort.

Halfway through the first period, Lampman’s Colton Schell, who played some of his minor hockey in Estevan, scored the first goal of the game. That was quickly answered 11 seconds later with a goal from the Bruins Isaiah Thomas.

The Mustangs didn't allow the tie to stand. Five minutes later, Melfort's Tanner Zentner scored a power play goal, which was quickly followed up by another power play goal by Carson Albrecht.

After the active period that was the first, the second period saw no goals scored.

In the third period, with less than three minutes left in the game, Melfort's Carson Albrecht scored a shorthanded empty netter.

Melfort's Noah Giesbrecht stopped 32 out of 33 shots on his net, while Estevan's Grant Boldt stopped 22 out of 25.

The next game of the series will be in Estevan on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m.

The home team has won each game in the series.

The Bruins are familiar with facing elimination. In their quarter-final series against the Humboldt Broncos, the Bruins were down 3-1 in the series, but rallied to win three straight and advance to the semifinal.
