The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins suffered a loss on home ice for the first time in 2019 on Tuesday night, a 3-2 decision against the Notre Dame Hounds.

Turner Ripplinger opened the scoring for Estevan on a power play 6:48 into the game; it was the only goal in the first period.

Kyle Robinson’s goal 14:02 into the second period tied the game, but then Michael McChesney’s power play goal just over two minutes later restored the Bruins advantage.

The Hounds scored twice in the opening five minutes of the third to take the lead. Marshall Wilton scored 98 seconds into the frame, and then Jakob Breault notched the winner less than three minutes later.

Former Bruin Matt Lukacs made 29 saves for the Hounds to get the win. Lukacs was acquired by the Hounds hours before the Jan. 10 trade deadline.

Tyler Szturm made 19 saves for the Bruins in his first game in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Estevan (30-22-2-1) missed a chance to take a further stranglehold on the Viterra Division lead. They have an eight-point advantage over the Yorkton Terriers, but Yorkton has three games in hand.

The Bruins will return to the ice on Saturday night at home against the Battlefords North Stars. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
