The Estevan Bruins dropped a 6-3 decision to the Melville Millionaires Saturday night at Affinity Place in the Bruins home opener.

It was a 2-0 lead for Melville after the first period, with Jonathan Krahn scoring on a power play midway through the first period and Jaydon Dureau scoring with 26 seconds to play in the first period.

After neither team scored in the second, Luke Nkwama tallied twice for Melville in the opening 4 1/2 minutes of the third for a 4-0 advantage.

Mason Strutt’s goal 20 seconds after Nkwama second tally put Estevan on the board.

The two teams traded goals before the end of the game. Devan Harrison and Eddie Gallagher scored for the Bruins, while Zach McIntyre and Dureau tallied for Melville.

Gallagher’s goal came seconds after Melville’s Cole Stevenson checked Bruin forward Caleb Petrie from behind. Stevenson was assessed a five-minute major and ejected, but there was just 25 seconds left to play.

Emerik Demers and Eric Clark split the goaltending duties for Estevan.

The Bruins next game will be Nov. 13 when they visit the Humboldt Broncos. Estevan and Humboldt will meet again the following night at Affinity Place, starting at 7:30 p.m.
