Bruins get a split in Melfort after dropping Game 2

The Estevan Bruins left Melfort with a split in the first two games in their series with the Melfort Mustangs. Melfort won Game 2 of the best of seven quarter-final series 4-1 Saturday night, one night after the Bruins took Game 1 4-1.

The Estevan Bruins left Melfort with a split in the first two games in their series with the Melfort Mustangs.

Melfort won Game 2 of the best of seven quarter-final series 4-1 Saturday night, one night after the Bruins took Game 1 4-1.

Eddie Gallagher opened the scoring for the Bruins with a power play goal with 2:55 to play in the first period.

Tian Rask scored for the Mustangs 6:39 into the second to tie the game.

The Mustangs took over in the third. Christian Albertson notched what proved to be the game-winning goal seven minutes into the final frame, and then Gabe Odowichuk and Kenzie Arnold scored empty net goals 20 seconds apart late in the stanza to put the game away.

Bruins goaltender Keenan Rancier was excellent once again, as he stopped 40 of the 42 shots he faced, including 17 in the first period and 14 in the third.

Shawn Parkinson made 14 saves for Melfort.

The series will now shift to Estevan for the next two games. The two teams will meet Tuesday for Game 3 and Wednesday for Game 4. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
