The Estevan Bruins opened up the post-Christmas portion of their schedule Monday night with a convincing 7-1 victory over the Weyburn Red Wings in Weyburn.

Estevan dominated the first half of the game, but didn’t open the scoring until the 17:27 mark of the first period on a point shot by Tylor Ludwar – his first goal in the SJHL.

Goals by Griffin Asham-Moroz and Tyson Manz in the opening seven minutes of the second period extended the Bruins lead to three. The advantage would have been even bigger, but Red Wings goalie Joseph Young was tremendous.

Young left the game with an apparent lower body injury midway through the second period.

Daytona Houle gave the Red Wings some life with a power play goal with 5:01 to play in the middle frame. The Wings had several chances to score late in the second and early in the third, but Bruin goaltender Keenan Rancier made some stellar saves to keep the lead at two.

The Bruins scored four times in the final 12 minutes to pull away. Cody Davis scored 8:19 into the third to restore the three-goal lead, and his brother Jayden Davis added a power play goal 1:41 later.

Caleb Petrie tallied two minutes after Jayden Davis’ goal, and Eddie Gallagher finished the scoring a few minutes later.

Rancier made 19 saves to get the victory in net for the Bruins, who outshot the Red Wings 43-20.

The two teams will be back on the ice Wednesday afternoon at Affinity Place. Game time is 3 p.m.
