Davis brothers earn SJHL weekly honours

It’s a family edition of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Weekly Awards for two members of the Estevan Bruins, as brothers Jayden and Cody Davis of Alameda were both recognized for the week of Feb. 23-March 1.

Jayden Davis, who was born in 1999 and is in his final season of junior hockey, was named the SJHL Player of the Week, while younger brother Cody (born in 2002) was named the SJHL Rookie of the Week for their contributions to the team during two wins and one loss in the final week of the regular season.

Jayden has been the hottest player in the league throughout the month of February, as he tallied a point in all 12 of the Bruins’ games (six goals and 12 assists). In the final week, Jayden tallied six points (two goals, four assists) in three games to close off his season totals at 58 points in 58 games played.

Jayden had a pair of goals in a 6-1 win at Notre Dame on Wednesday, chipped in an assist in a 4-1 win at Weyburn of Friday, and racked up three assists in a 6-4 loss to Weyburn on Saturday night.

Cody has finished his first full season in the SJHL strong, as the 17-year-old forward finished the season with a five-game point streak (five goals, two assists). In the final week, Cody tallied four points (three goals and an assist) in three games to close off his season totals at 27 points in 52 games played. Cody had a goal in the 6-1 win at Notre Dame, scored twice in the 4-1 win over Weyburn, and chipped in an assist in the 6-4 finale against Weyburn.

Cody Davis scored 16 goals this season, second among Bruins’ rookies and fifth on the team.
