The Estevan Gymnastics Club and the Estevan Bruins will square off in some strength and fitness tests in October through a fundraiser for the gymnastics club.

The strength tests allow supporters of each organization to bid, Calcutta style, on who they think will win each challenge, with first place winning 40 per cent of the pot. Second place takes home 20 per cent.

People can find live bidding at http://go.rallyup.com/gymnastsvsbruins and watch live as the Bruins come to the gymnastics club for their workout on Oct. 8. The gymnasts will come later that evening and try and beat the Bruins scores.

Rebecca Fedyk with the gymnastics club said this will be a fun way to get everyone in the community rallying behind the two groups.

“We figured a good way to get the girls motivated to do a voluntary fundraiser would be to challenge the Bruins, because the girls definitely like having an extra challenge,” said Fedyk.

All 12 competitive athletes will be involved, and then it’s up to the rest of the club as to whether they want to participate.

The two organizations will also be part of a sit-up-a-thon. Visit http://go.rallyup.com/estevangymnastics to support the athletes.

“They’re going to have five minutes to do as many sit-ups as they can do. The more sit-ups they can do, the more the pledges they will make, or people can pay a flat rate. And then we’re also going to have the Bruins do that, so the girls can beat the Bruins with the amount of sit-ups that they can do,” said Fedyk.

She said they hope both the Calcutta and the sit-up competition do very well, because it will be a lot of fun.

The gymnastics club needs to do a lot of fundraising, she said. COVID-19 shut their season down early in the spring, and they have to pay for their current home, which they purchased and moved into before COVID.
