The Notre Dame Hounds scored five times in a 12-minute span of the second period to defeat the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins 5-2 on Wednesday night in Wilcox.

Local product Ryder Pierson scored his first goal in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League midway through the first period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Nolan Renwick's goal at the 5:59 mark of the second period tied the game, but then Tom Sweeney tallied 72 seconds later to restore the Bruins advantage. The goal was Sweeney’s first in the league.

But quick goals by Noah Bankowski, Jakob Breault, Cole Stevenson and Qaritag Kusugak-Clark would lift the Hounds to a three-goal advantage before the end of the middle frame.

Neither team scored in the third period.

Kadin Kilpatrick stopped 26 shots for the Bruins in the loss. Andrew Henderson made 28 saves in the victory.

The game marked the end of the Bruins five-game road trip. They managed just one win during that time.

Estevan's next game is Saturday night against the Humboldt Broncos at Affinity Place. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
