The Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles have retained the McLeod Series against the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs.

The second half of the annual four-game basketball showdown was contested Wednesday night in Weyburn.

Estevan's senior girls basketball team soundly defeated their Weyburn counterparts 92-72 to give the Elecs a 2-1 lead in the 85th annual best-of-four basketball battle. Estevan also had a four-point advantage in point differential.

But the Eagles senior boys defeated their Estevan rivals 78-62 to tie the series at 2-2. The series came down to point differential, and Weyburn came out with a 324-312 edge.

A large crowd filled the gym in Weyburn for the game. Many of the spectators were from Estevan.

The first two games in the series were played last week in Estevan, with the Eagles winning the senior boys game 96-78, and the Elecs winning the senior girls game 80-78 in a thrilling battle.

Weyburn now has a 45-40 lead all-time in the McLeod Series.

Next week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
