Friday night hockey wrap-up: Bruins rout Weyburn; Big Six and minor hockey action

The Estevan Bruins scored five times in an eight-minute span of the second period in a 7-0 romp of the Weyburn Red Wings Friday night in Weyburn. Bruins captain Austin King-Cunninghm opened the scoring with 3 1/2 minutes to play in the first period.

The offensive blitz began 2:29 into the second when Antoine St. Onge scored his first goal in the SJHL. Mason Strutt added to the lead just over two minutes later. St. Onge notched his second of the frame, and then Devan Harrison and Caleb Petrie scored to give Estevan a 6-0 lead 10:03 into the frame.

King-Cunningham added his second of the game 8:17 into the third to finish the scoring.

Boston Bilous made 26 saves to get the shutout in his first SJHL start.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Three games were played in the Big Six Hockey League Friday night.

The Carlyle Cougars defeated the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Capitals 7-3 Friday night in Carlyle. It was the Cougars first victory of the season, and the Oil Capitals first game of the campaign.

Also on Friday, the Carnduff Red Devils trounced the Wawota Flyers 10-1 and the Midale Mustangs doubled up the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings 6-3.

Games for Saturday include Wawota at Carnduff, Carlyle at Kipling-Windthorst, Midale at Yellow Grass and the Arcola-Kisbey Combines at the Bienfait Coalers. All games start at 8 p.m.

The Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins dropped their first game of the season in a 3-1 loss to the Lumsden-Bethune Lions on Friday night.

Conner Gardiner scored Estevan’s lone goal with 12:44 to play in the third period. It came with 12:44 to play in the third period, and 30 seconds after Lumsden had scored to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

Lucas Day was in goal for Estevan.

The two teams will meet again Saturday at 4 p.m. at Affinity Place.

The Estevan Senchuk Bearcats 1 U11 girls hockey team picked up a 5-3 win over the Weyburn Atomic Gold Friday night at the Power Dodge Ice Centre. Allie Lainton picked up the game-winning goal late in the third period.

The Senchuk U11 Bearcats 2 girls, meanwhile, routed the Madville Huskies 26-0 in Bienfait.

The Estevan Power Dodge U15 Bearcats dropped a 5-3 decision to the Regina Rebels White Friday night in Regina.

Brooke McKinnon scored twice for Estevan, while Rylie Scott also scored.

Emmy Rae was in goal for Estevan.  

They will play again Saturday morning at Affinity Place at 10:45 a.m.

The South East TS&M U18 AA Goldwings were defeated 9-0 by the Regina Renegades Friday night in Regina.

Riley Schultz was the goalie for the Goldwings.

The Goldwings will face the Renegades Saturday in Midale at 5 p.m.
