Jennifer Jones calls out to her sweepers Saturday evening in the women's semifinal of the Home Hardware Canada Cup at Affinity Place.

When it’s not your game, it’s just not your game.

And the women’s semifinal of the Home Hardware Canada Cup at Affinity Place was not Rachel Homan’s game. That game was very much under the control of Jennifer Jones, who won 8-4 after running Homan out of rocks in the 10th end.

The game turned in Jones’ favour in the fourth end when she counted three to grab a 4-1 lead.

“Getting a three against a great team kind of changed momentum a little bit,” said Jones. “I thought we made some big shots when we needed them and even though it got a little scary in eight, we managed to hold them to two. All in all, I’m pretty happy with the performance.”

The ice was a bit different today, Jones said, but they picked up on it. Except for the eighth end, there wasn’t much chance for Homan to find a weakness in Jones’ armour.

“The girls made some big shots when we had to,” Jones said. “We never really gave them that big opportunity but with the five-rock rule you’re never really out of it. Just look at that men’s semi this afternoon. It’s a great rule. It doesn’t really allow for a lot of blank ends, which is nice to see. It’s a ton of fun to play but it’s kind of stressful.”

Homan had a great week going into the semifinal but couldn’t come up with the kind of shots Jones had.

“We had quite a few picks there in the middle and we couldn’t quite find the lines,” Homan said. "Jen played well and their team played well and good luck to them in the final.”

Jones will take on Kerri Einarson in the women’s final at 2 p.m. Einarson won the round robin game between the two 6-3 earlier in the week.

“I’ve got to play better,” Jones said. “I didn’t play very well in the round robin but they’re a tremendous team. Tonnes of great shots from them so we’ll have to be sharp from lead to skip through ten ends.”
