Local hockey product Max Wanner cracks final rankings for 2021 NHL Draft

An Estevan hockey product has cracked the final rankings for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Defenceman Max Wanner is ranked 223rd overall among North American skaters for the draft, which will happen July 23 and 24.

An Estevan hockey product has cracked the final rankings for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Defenceman Max Wanner is ranked 223rd overall among North American skaters for the draft, which will happen July 23 and 24.

Wanner, a six-foot-three blue-liner, was born in Estevan and played much of his developmental hockey in Estevan.

In his final season of U15 hockey, he joined the Prairie Hockey Academy.

Wanner spent most of the past two seasons playing hockey in Moose Jaw with the U18 AAA Warriors and the Western Hockey League Warriors. But he also had two games with the Estevan Bruins in 2019-20.

In the abbreviated 2020-21 season, he had four goals and an assist in five games with the U18 AAA Warriors, and four assists in 17 games with the WHL Warriors.
