Bearcats meet in all-Estevan showdown

The Estevan Bearcats defeated the Estevan Senchuk Bearcats Sunday at the Power Dodge Ice Centre in a Saskatchewan Female Hockey League atom division game.

Julia Durr opened the scoring for the Estevan Bearcats just 90 seconds into the game. Chelsea Madsen and Miley Lockerby tallied 90 seconds apart a few minutes later to hand the Senchuk Bearcats a 2-1 advantage, but then Durr would score twice just over two minutes apart to give her team a 3-2 lead, just 10 minutes into the first period.

Ella Fornwald tallied for the Senchuk Bearcats before the first period was over to tie the game and close out the scoring of a high-scoring opening frame.

Alexis Williamson scored in the second period to give the Bearcats the lead, but Gracyn Einarson of the Senchuk Bearcats tied the game again a few minutes later.

Durr added her fourth of the game with a minute to play in the second to give her team the lead for good.

Presley Hollingshead’s goal with 6:30 to play in the game was the only goal of the third period.

Taylor Short was in goal for the Bearcats, who improved their record to 7-3, while Kiera Barker was the goalie for the Senchuk Bearcats (7-6-1).

Both teams have home games coming up this weekend. The Bearcats will host the Southwest Cyclones on Jan. 5 and the Weyburn AtoMc Red on Jan. 6.

The Senchuk Bearcats next game is Jan. 5 against the Weyburn AtoMc Gold. They also host the Cyclones on Jan. 6.
