Estevan athletes begin national water polo season

The National Championship League (NCL) water polo season has started for Estevan athletes Taeghen Hack, Mikayla Hack and Cameron Gillingham. The three travelled to Surrey, B.C., to play in a tournament in the U19 men’s and women’s divisions.

The National Championship League (NCL) water polo season has started for Estevan athletes Taeghen Hack, Mikayla Hack and Cameron Gillingham.

The three travelled to Surrey, B.C., to play in a tournament in the U19 men’s and women’s divisions.

The men went undefeated the entire weekend crushing their competition. They won against Fraser Valley 13-5, West Coast Warriors 15-7, Pacific Storm 15-5, Fraser Valley a second time with a win of 22-10 and again Pacific Storm 18-9. Gillingham played strong defence to assist his team with these wins.

The women were 3-2-1 in their six games. They started their tournament playing Pacific Storm where they lost 7-5, then played Fraser Valley where Taeghen Hack hit the back of the net three times to help with a 15-12 win.

Then, they lost 11-7 against Edmonton Tsunami, won against Calgary Renegades Gold 19-3, where Mikayla Hack scored a goal and Taeghen Hack scored four. A close game against Fraser Valley led to a 10-10 tie and they finished off the weekend against the Calgary Renegades Black team where they won 9-8.
