Estevan Chargers trounce Moosomin to get first win of the season

Estevan Century 21 U12 Chargers coach Matt Schell has been waiting for the football team to have a strong start to a game all season. It would be an understatement to say they delivered that start on Saturday afternoon.

Estevan Century 21 U12 Chargers coach Matt Schell has been waiting for the football team to have a strong start to a game all season.

It would be an understatement to say they delivered that start on Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers scored six touchdowns in the opening quarter en route to a 59-0 victory over the Moosomin Little Generals at the Woodlawn Athletic Field in Moose Jaw Minor Football League action. It was a 40-0 game after the first quarter and 53-0 at half time.

The second half was played with straight time.

Schell wanted to see his team play hard for a full game, and they delivered.

Cooper Pukas and Truman Ciepliski each scored three touchdowns, while quarterback Peyton Tendler scored twice and passed for another.

The coach also praised the efforts of the Chargers defence.

“I told them to just be aggressive and smother them all day. Start with the first play and I’m pretty sure the first play of the game was a sack.”

Schell noted the Chargers haven’t surrendered a point since the first half of their previous game against the Moose Jaw Lions.

Next week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
