Estevan Mermaids compete in Regina swim meet

Members of the Estevan Mermaids synchronized swim club were in Regina on the weekend for the 2019 Diane Lemon Invitational meet, hosted by Regina Synchro and Synchro Saskatchewan. Athletes performed their figures and solos Saturday for the judges.

Members of the Estevan Mermaids synchronized swim club were in Regina on the weekend for the 2019 Diane Lemon Invitational meet, hosted by Regina Synchro and Synchro Saskatchewan.

Athletes performed their figures and solos Saturday for the judges. Duets and team routines were held Sunday. They were scored for their figures and routines, and awarded an overall championship mark based on their scores in those two categories.

In the nine and 10 solo, Sierra Mantei was second in the routine and second in the overall championship. In 13-15 solo, Rebecca Duncan was third in routine and in championship, Laura Swirski was sixth in routine and seventh in championship, and Gracie Dzuba was eighth in routine and in championship.

In the 11 and 12 duet, Sarah Greening and Rowyn Shier were fourth in routine and in championship, while Emily Greening and Sasha Mantei sixth in routine and championship in 13-15 duet.

The 11-12 competitive team - comprised of Sarah Greening, Sierra Mantei, Rowyn Shier, Rachel Duncan, Elle Meyers and Nevaeh Wakely - finished fifth in routine and in championship.

The 13-15 competitive team – with members Aivry Culy, Rebecca Duncan, Gracie Dzuba, Emily Greening, Andri Groeveld, Sienna Kuntz, Sasha Mantei, Bella Michael and Laura Swirski – was fifth in routine and championship.

The annual invitational figure and routine meet is named in honour of Diane Lemon, who has done it all as a swimmer, coach, judge, administrator and a parent of a synchronized swimmer. She was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
