An Estevan lacrosse player has been drafted by Saskatchewan’s team in the National Lacrosse League.

Wyatt Haux was selected in the sixth round, 92nd overall, in Thursday’s National Lacrosse League draft.

Haux won gold for Team Canada at the World Junior Lacrosse Championships in 2018 and 2019, and captained Canada’s entry in 2019. He spent 2019 with the Saskatoon Swat junior program, and was supposed to play junior lacrosse in St. Catharines, Ont., in 2020 before COVID-19 hit.

He learned to play the game while playing in the Estevan Lacrosse Association, progressing through the different levels of the sport.

The Rush have been one of the prestige organizations in the NLL since they were founded in 2015, as they won league titles in 2016 and 2018, and they have drawn fans from across the province.

The next edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
