Athletes from Estevan Sharks Water Polo club are back in the water for another season.

The club hosted its first ever Shark Week on Sept. 24 and 26. For two nights, practices were open to the public. This was a chance for anyone curious about the sport to come and try it, with no obligation to register with the club.

Siblings and friends of current players were encouraged come to experience the fun and challenging aspects of the game.

According to club registrar Erin Knoll, the Sharks recruited four new mini players through Shark Week.

“These young players didn’t know if they’d like the sport, and parents really appreciated the opportunity to try it out before fully committing.”

Another part of Shark Week was the unveilling of the club’s new logo and 2019-20 clothing. Merchandise co-ordinator Megan Tangjerd was on hand with new suits, shirts, hoodies and pants for players and fans to order. The new logo features a new Shark while sticking to the club’s existing colour scheme.

Registration numbers for the club remain strong, with 15 minis, 19 atoms, 13 bantams and five cadets. Returning coaches, Chad Knoll, Sarah Niebergall, Logan Bomerak, Dave Dyzeryk and Tania Andrist will mentor new coaches Nicole Elliott, Tenille Yunick, Jen Stopanski and Megan Tangjerd.

The bantam team is in Regina Oct. 6 for their first tournament of the season. Mini and atom teams have a bit more time before their first action, travelling to Weyburn Oct. 27.
