The Estevan Sharks bantam boys and girls teams travelled to Regina on Jan. 12 for their fourth tournament of the season.

The boys started out playing their toughest opponent, the Regina Fireship. The two teams went back and forth the entire game, with Lucas Dzeryk scoring two goals in the first period and then Jace Carritt and Conner Piche picking up a goal each in the second period in a 4-4 tie.

Their next game was against the Regina Battleship and the Sharks started out by notching eight goals, with Logan Dalziel scoring three, Dzeryk and Carritt getting two each and Piche one in an 8-1 rout. Noah Mvula was in goal for the Sharks.

The boys then went into their third game against the Regina Sailship. Dierks Milford scored twice, and Carritt and Dzeryk also scored in a four-goal first period, and Josh Heleta and Milford scored in the second as the Sharks won 6-4.

The final game saw the boys face off against the Weyburn Hurricanes, which Estevan won 5-4. Dalziel scored twice, Dzeryk, Milford and Heleta also scored. Mvula held off the Hurricanes late in the game, and the Sharks finished with a 3-0-1 record in the tournament.

The girls finished with a 1-3-1 record. They faced the Regina Tugboat three times, and lost all three contests, 7-5, 9-2 and 8-6.

The girls swam to a 6-6 tie with the Regina Submarine team, and they beat the Regina Frigate 7-1.

Lilly Knoll and Prysm Gooding shared the duties in net throughout the tournament. The youngest player, 10-year-old Rachel Tober, played in her first bantam tournament. Sadie Smith, Alandra and Aliana Young, and Emily and Jordyn Tarnes lead the way offensively. Smith, Alandra Young and Emily Tarnes were the only bantam-aged players on the team; the rest were playing up from the atoms.

The Estevan Sharks cadet players travelled to Calgary over the weekend to a National Championship League (NCL) tournament as part of Team Sask., where they met very competitive teams from all over western Canada. Representing the Sharks were Cameron Gillingham, Tristan Threinen, Nathan Threinen, Ethan Elliott and Lyndon Sauder.

The weekend started out tough, as on Jan. 11, they played Pacific Storm and lost 13-8. The following day, they dropped an 11-10 decision to Fraser Valley and they lost their afternoon game to the West Coast Warriors 20-6. They closed out the tournament with a 14-12 win over the Pacific Storm and a 12-11 win over Manitoba.

They went 3-3 at the tournament, losing 13-10 to the Storm, 12-10 to Fraser Valley and 9-8 to the Calgary Renegades, but winning 8-7 over the Edmonton Tsunami, 11-10 over the Storm and 16-8 over the Calgary Renegades Gold.
