The Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football League (EMF) is hoping a majority of area gridiron warriors take advantage of the upcoming Don Narcisse All-Star Event camp, but that won’t be the only activity this spring and summer keeping football top of mind.

After the Don Narcisse All-Star Event hits Chow Field on May 15, the EMF will welcome the Canadian Junior Football League’s Prairie Football Conference’s Regina Thunder to town for a camp in June. Before and after the Thunder camp the league will be hosting three flag football tournament fundraisers with more events still to be decided.

Kevin Mortenson, president of the EMF, said the hope is a majority of Estevan and area football players register for the Don Narcisse camp, which will have a roster of Saskatchewan Roughriders and CFL players and alumni teaching seven to 18-year-old kids offensive and defensive techniques. He said details are still being worked out about the Thunder football camp, but confirmation has been received they’ll be at Chow Field around the middle of June to help local kids learn a few new tricks of the trade.

Mortenson said the first of three flag football tournament fundraisers will go May 21 at Chow Field, with a second one-day competition happening in June. A two-day flag football fundraiser at Woodlawn Field, complete with beer gardens and other amenities, is tentatively scheduled for early July.

He said the Don Narcisse All-Star Event will be handling all registrations for the camp through their own website. In addition to the drills and skills development portion of the camp, an autograph sessions and CFL all-star lunch is included for the $80 registration fee with all proceeds from the camp going to support the Red Cross’ Imagine No Bullying campaign.

“I’m hoping the general population of the football players here in Estevan and possibly Weyburn show up for it,” said Mortenson. “It would be good to get over 100 kids here for a camp.”
