Goldwings split road games

The Southeast Aaron Well Servicing midget AA Goldwings split two games on a northern road trip on the weekend. They began the jaunt with a 5-0 victory over the Warman Wildcats on Dec. 7.

They began the jaunt with a 5-0 victory over the Warman Wildcats on Dec. 7. Five different players scored for the Goldwings: Jenna Currie, Kendra Kotylak, Marci LeBlanc, Khloe Bedore and Kassidy Johnson. The Goldwings also outshot the Wildcats 46-8, with Kara Zelyck posting her second shutout in a row.

Their next game, a 2-1 loss to the Northeast Aces in Wynyard, was the Goldwings first loss in league play this season. Bedore started the scoring in the first period for the Goldwings. The Aces scored in the second to tie it up, and added the game-winning goal with just over three minutes to play in the third. Zelyck made 23 saves for the Wings, who outshot the Aces 49-25.

The South East TS&M midget A Goldwings dropped a 5-1 decision to the Moose Jaw Mavericks, the best team in their division, on Dec. 7 in Midale.

Caydence Chapman opened the scoring 5 1/2 minutes into the first period for the Goldwings, but Moose Jaw responded to tie the game, and then added another goal in the second. The Mavericks tallied three times in the final 10 minutes of the third to pull away.

The Estevan peewee Bearcats lost twice in league play, 7-2 to the Weyburn Goldwings on Dec. 7 and 7-3 to the Wood River Ice Cats the following day.

Brooke McKinnon opened the scoring 1:49 into the first period for Estevan against Weyburn, and Julia Durr had the Bearcats’ other goal.

Durr scored twice and Miley Lockerby had the other goal against the Ice Cats.

Kiera Barker was the goalie for both games.

The Estevan Senchuk atom Bearcats played three times in two days on the weekend. They dropped two games to the Western Prairie Redwings in Rosetown, 5-3 and 6-4 on Dec. 7.

They recovered to rout the Diefenbaker Thunder 8-1 the following day in Beechy.

The Estevan atom Bearcats went on the road this weekend and fell 2-1 to the Thunder on Dec. 7 in Dinsmore and 7-1 to the Western Prairie Redwings in Rosetown the following day.(Details on the game were not available).
